High Street ~ Lower Street
High Street
High Street was once known as Lower Street. Following a final council meeting, held on June 30 1879, a notice was placed in the Deal, Walmer & Sandwich Mercury to announce its change and, at the same time, Prospect Place became Victoria Road.
The same notice confirmed that renumbering of the houses in the town was postponed. Renumbering did not happen until 1893.
