Probate
Valentine died at home in Stone House Market Street in April 1861. The probate record says he left £2,000 and that his daughter Charlotte was one of the executors. Sarah continues to live in Market Street until her own death in 1872. Charlotte, probably after her mother’s death, moves to Portsea on Hampshire where she lives with her sister Mary Ann and her family. William J. Andrews, Mary Ann’s husband, works there for the inland revenue. Charlotte later moves with them to Edmonton, Middlesex where she dies in 1902.
Family Vault
Valentine, Sarah and their children Sarah, Henry and Valentine were all buried together in a family vault in St. George’s churchyard. Only the Memorial Plaque survives and can be found on the South wall of the Garden of Rest.
Maria Ann Hodges, the spinster sister of Sarah, died on 3 June 1867 and was buried in St. George’s churchyard.
