Water Street

In the early 1700s two schemes to bring freshwater into Deal were introduced. One of these brought water from the North Stream using pipes of hollowed out elm logs which was then pumped via a horse-driven machine to conduits in the town. The point of the pipe’s entry gave its name to Water Street.
